Network Engineer

We have an opportunity for a Network Engineer who will join the global IT operations team of a top tier fintech (international payments and foreign exchange). 


The role's purpose is to help shape the company’s network infrastructure requirements as well as make recommendations for service reliability and efficiency improvements.


This is an L2/L3 role, delivering operational requests in the networking area, incident investigation and involvement in transformation projects. 

You'll work with technologies such as F5, Checkpoint, Palo Alto, Cisco Meraki and Azure components.


The company is setting up a brand new technical shared services center in Bucharest to run infrastructure, application support and platform management for the group's technical ecosystem, adding to the already existing hubs in the US and UK. 


You'll join the starting team in Romania that is tasked to define and run operational flows, knowledge transfer, documentation and technical activities.



Your main responsibilities will revolve around the following:


  • Support and maintain the firewall estate, routing and switching infrastructure and load-balancers at best practice;


  • Maintain network design / build / configuration documentation;


  • Security patching and updating of network hardware;


  • Deploy and manage change requests for network equipment;


  • Manage and audit log activity on all network devices;


  • Troubleshoot or further escalate network specific incidents raised by the company's IT Service Desk;


  • Act as an IT technical resource for business projects and technical changes, contributing to solution design as part of the project rollout and transition to production.


  • Engage with key external stakeholders (data circuits providers, MPLS and data-centers providers) to progress network tickets when needed;


  • Lead and collaborate on infrastructure upgrade projects based on business requirements and timelines;


  • Vulnerability patching of the network infrastructure and relevant software components.



This role is for you if:



  • You're comfortable with networking fundamentals - VLAN, NAT, OSPF, BGP, etc;


  • You have strong knowledge of: switching technologies (STP, RSTP, VTP, Etherchannels, VLANs);


  • You have experience handling IPS/IDS technologies;


  • You have experience managing next-gen firewalls (e.g. Palo Alto);


  • You've worked with load-balancing technologies, such as F5 Big-IP, Azure LB.


  • Ideally, you're comfortable with Microsoft Azure networking technologies;


  • Any experience with software defined networking using Terraform or Powershell is a big plus;


  • Nice to have: skills in  SD-WAN, Zero Trust Networking, WAF, Internet Gateways, Email security, DNS, SSL/TLS.


  • Excellent command of English.



Why you should consider this role?



  • The work is hybrid, with 1-2 days per week from the office (located 5 min to Piata Victoriei metro station);


  • Program is 8-17 Mon-Fri;


  • You'll also be part of a paid rotational on-call (one week per month), but the number of calls is very low (there are already 3 teams covering all timezones 24x7).
