Data Engineer - Hybrid, Bucharest
Our partner is a well reputed software development center, part of one of the world’s largest banking groups. The Romanian development teams are at the core of the digital transformation journey, working across multiple initiatives, products and technologies, shaping the future of the banking world.
As a Data Engineer, you'll be part of a team focusing on migrating an existing on-prem application into the cloud (GCP). The application consumes data from a data lake and triggers alerts when special sets of conditions are met. With the data lake and the app moving into the cloud, the team needs to secure new configurations and development to meet the new ecosystem.
The technology stack you'll be using counts, among others: SQL/PLSQL, Python, Cloudera, Hadoop Ecosystem - Spark, HDFS, Hive, YARN, Kerberos, Big Query, DataProc, etc.
This role best fits those candidates who have strong skills in SQL/PLSQL and (ideally) Python and want to explore the world of cloud data technologies, being open to hands on learning.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Closely collaborate with Cloud engineers, Analysts, Developers and Testers to understand cloud migration strategy and maintain functionality into the new environment.
Define and evolve the architecture of the components you are working on to preserve and improve funcitonality and performance in the cloud;
In time, secure additional migrations for a larger portfolio of big data applications towards GCP - adjusting or rewriting the code to best perform in the new ecosystem;
TDD, clean code, refactor constantly. Ensure reliability and maintainability in production.
Work to develop and maintain a highly automated Continuous Delivery Pipeline;
Help create a culture of learning and continuous improvement within your team and beyond.
To thrive in this role, you’ll have:
Solid database development skills using SQL/PLSQL ideally in a data intensive setup;
knowledge of Python and/or experience using PySpark code is nice to have (but not mandatory, as long as you'll be open to learn on the job);
Ideally, you have already worked in a Big Data and Hadoop environment - Spark, HDFS, Hive, YARN, Kerberos - if not, you should be willing to pick them up and use them in the job;
Willing to learn the cloud big data technologies - such as GCP Big Query or DataProc - if you've already used these in the past, that's even better.
Fluent in English.
Your benefits:
Meal vouchers
Annual Bonuses
Medical subscriptions
Life insurance
Hybrid work – 3 days WFH. Offices are based in Pipera, close to the Metro station – the coolest offices in town
Extra days off
